What are the minimum system requirements to print labels using NetLabels?

There are no special system requirements
Most PC's manufactured in the last 2-3 years should be fine. All current NetLabels customers are running on various versions of Windows. NetLabels is currently running on Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista/7.

Operating System and Memory (RAM)
You need Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista/7 with at least 32MB of RAM. 64MB or more is highly recommended, and is critical if you use Windows NT, 2000, or XP. We recommend at least 1GB of RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7. Your computer may be able to run with a low-memory configuration, but is likely to be slow, due to disk swapping.

With Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/7, you will need "Administrator" privileges to access printer setup.

Processor
A Pentium III or Pentium IV class processor is definitely preferred. Machines with older processors may work fine, but test them first to find out. They may run slowly.

Windows Display Settings
The display on your PC must be set to MORE than 256 colors.

Currently, NetLabels is best viewed if your screen is set to at least 800 X 600 pixel resolution, but 1024 X 768 is even better. You can change video settings in Windows with the following command sequence:

  • Start
  • Settings
  • Control Panel
  • Display
  • Click on the Settings tab, where you can change the resolution and number of colors.
    • Change the number of colors to "16-bit" or "24-bit" or "HighColor". If you set it to 32-bit/True Color, your screen and labels may show only gray, not color.
    • If your screen resolution is currently set to 640X480, see if you can change it to 800 X 600 or 1024X768. Your browser will automatically create scroll bars so that you can access all of the buttons and areas of the screen.
Internet Connection and Web Browser
If you are using the Internet Version, your PC must have a connection to the Internet and a web browser installed. You must download and install the Java Plug-in from Sun Microsystems, Inc. This browser plug-in allows your web browser to run Java software. A high-speed Internet connection is optimal, since the Java 1.3 plug-in is about 5-8 MB in size. If you connect to the Internet by modem, it could take about 30 minutes to download. See www.netlabels.com/_setup/plugin.html However, this download is only required the FIRST TIME you use NetLabels.

We have customers using both Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. A recent web browser is best, since they have better security features and downloads are more automated.
