How can I match the label colors I need exactly?

Color matching on PC's has always been a problem. The color displayed on your screen may be very different from the color created by your printer. Different printer models may render the same color quite differently. Even the paper you print on can affect the colors on your label.

To address this problem, you need a way to print out colors on YOUR printer, and then select the exact color you want.

The NetLabels solution to this problem is the NetLabels Color Swatch Printer.

The NetLabels Color Swatch Printer will print out over 700 color swatches on 5 pages. On these printed pages, each color swatch has 3 numbers just to the right which uniquely define that color.

The 3 numbers represent the red, green, and blue (RGB) values, respectively, each with a value in the range from 0 to 255. If you do the multiplication, you will find that 256 X 256 X 256 = 16,777,216 possible unique colors.

For example:

  • black is 0,0,0
  • white is 255,255,255
  • red is 255,0,0
  • green is 0,255,0
  • blue is 0,0,255
  • the digit "1" for label style 0501 is 128,208,255
  • the letter "W" for label style 0506 is 23,89,23
Although it is possible to create more than 16 million unique colors, you will find that standard desktop printers can only produce a limited range of colors. Since all of the colors created by the printer must be some combination of cyan, yellow, magenta, and black inks mixed together, there is no ability to produce flourescent colors. In particular, the shades of pink and orange available are quite limited.

Printer manufacturers have begun to address this problem, driven by the need to print photo-realistic images. Many new "photo" printers include SIX ink colors, rather than four. The additional 2 base colors provide a much wider range of printed colors, particularly for key elements in typical photographs, such as skin tones. However, printing in high-resolution, high-quality photo mode tends to be MUCH slower than normal printing, and the ink cartridges may be more expensive.
