NetLabels 3.0 Technology Overview

Platform
NetLabels 3.0 has been developed using Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. We are moving from Java to .NET as the platform for NetLabels because the .NET Framework provides better stability and compatibility for our application, which will reduce the number of support issues our users face.

The .NET Framework 4.0 runtime will need to be downloaded and installed for NetLabels to run (just like the Java Plug-in needs to be installed for the current version of NetLabels to work).

To download the .NET Framework 4.0, follow this link: NetLabels 3.0 - .NET 4.0 Download

Application
NetLabels 3.0 runs as a "Smart Client", which eliminates the need to run NetLabels through a web browser. We made this change because we want the best possible user experience for our users. We have found that the combination of NetLabels, along with the various versions of the Java Plug-in, Windows, and Internet Explorer could pose problems for some of our users in their specific envirornments. By developing NetLabels 3.0 as a Smart Client applicaiton, we have removed Internet Explorer as a possible problem point for printing labels. The switch from Java to .NET also removes a problem point, since the .NET Framework works better with Windows - especially the newer versions - than the Java Plug-in does.

In NetLabels 3.0, the Internet and Desktop versions are the exact same software. The only difference is that the Internet version is connected to our web server, while the Desktop version runs entirely off of the PC.

The Internet version of NetLabels 3.0 is delivered with ClickOnce technology. This method of delivery allows for easy installs and easy application updates.

Security
With NetLabels 3.0 your data is secure. Customer data never goes across the Internet. The only information that gets passed online is the UserId/Password combination to log in, the label design details, click information, and subscription information. All of the data is encrypted using SSL.

Because NetLabels 3.0 runs directly from the user's PC, labels are printed directly to the selected printer without the need to travel across the Internet, just like printing a Word Document or an Excel Spreadsheet.
